What happens if a practice cancels my confirmed shift?

You’ve already filled up your gas tank—but the practice just canceled your scheduled shift. What now? Thankfully, our policy protects you from incurring all the costs of a practice-initiated cancellation. Here’s what to know.

  • The practice cancels a confirmed shift with only 1 day’s notice (24 hours) or less.
For the inconvenience and lost work, you’ll be paid 100% of the total day’s pay. We’ll make every effort to get you rebooked with another practice for that original date and time—but even if you’re rebooked, you’ll still get your pay from the original shift.

  • The practice cancels a confirmed shift between 1-3 days (more than 24 hours, less than 72) in advance.
Even with this advance notice, we know you’ve already made some arrangements to accommodate your scheduled shift. So we’ll give you 25% of the pay you would’ve received—and also make every effort to get you rebooked with another practice. Even if you’re rebooked, you’ll still get that 25% payment from the original shift.

There are a couple important exceptions:

  • The practice cancels a confirmed shift at any point due to reasons beyond their control.
These reasons include but aren’t limited to national emergencies, general building and electrical malfunctions, gas leaks, water damage, or extreme weather. (Basically, anything that disrupts the practice’s infrastructure—and makes it impossible for you to do your work properly.)

The practice has a negative experience with you and asks that you not return.
If a practice has booked you for multiple shifts, but has a valid complaint about your behavior on the job and would rather not have you back, you won’t be obligated to show up for the remaining shifts. You also won’t be paid for those shifts, even if the practice cancels them less than four days in advance. (Note: We’ll review and assess every complaint thoroughly before enforcing our policies and penalties.)
